Course Program

This is what you will be studying
Cantaloupe Island

The famous song by Herbie Hancock. I will explain the harmonic structure, harmonic solutions, and how to improvise properly in this context.

The Thrill Is Gone

An interesting version of BB King's song. We will understand the best approach to remain in the tradition but with modern improvisation.

All Blues

The famous song by Miles Davis. I will explain how to work on chord changes and "master" altered and diminished scales.

Cissy Strut

The famous track by The Meters. An example of modal music with a compelling groove. I'll explain how to be interesting even if you improvise only over a single chord!

George Gershwin's legendary song in a "smooth jazz" version. We will learn how to play through the changes with appropriate phrasing and modern sound.

Help The Poor

Many Modern Blues artists remade BB King's famous song like Robben Ford. We will study the harmonic part and understand how to approach changes in a modern way without forgetting the past.

The Chicken

The famous song by Jaco Pastorius. We will play through the changes and understand how to improvise on a structure that winks at Blues and Funk.

I will explain how to emphasize harmony and have the best improvisational approach without falling into the usual "clichés."

I Put A Spell On You

The song by Nina Simone in Robben Ford's version. An elegant Blues, full of interesting substitutions and harmonic solutions!

So What

Another song by Miles Davis, the quintessential example of Modal Music. Is it more difficult to play on several changes or over just one chord?

Chicken Dog

A song by the famous John Scofield. Jazz, Funk, and Blues come together to create an explosive song!

Fee Fi Fo Fum

Wayne Shorter's masterpiece to close the course. We will learn how to play through the changes by analyzing the harmonic structure, understanding the solutions on the various chords and tonal centers.

I feel everybody can level up their playing with this method. All you need is LOTS of APPLICATION, and the results will come!

The best source of teaching materials!

GUITARlab, created by Davide Pannozzo, is a comprehensive website and a great source of teaching materials to learn how to play the Blues. Davide is not only a great player, but an excellent instructor, and the site contains a vast amount of material from soloing techniques, rhythm playing, scales, tunes, improvisation, master classes, transcriptions, video demonstrations, detailed individualized feedback, and even more all at your fingertips on an easy-to-understand platform.

Extremely positive experience
Jorge Ernesto

My experience as a member of the Guitarlab has been highly positive. The energy among the students is tremendous and inspiring. We are so lucky to have a guitar hero as a teacher.

Davide’s an exceptional musician with excellent pedagogy.

I really don’t understand how Davide manages to find the time to help us all. Remember our names and vulnerabilities as students. His patience and dedication as a teacher are incredible.

Very helpful method

The texts, licks, and video demonstrations explained the topics very well.

I found it extremely useful to send the video recordings to coach Davide Pannozzo, since they “forced” me to do a lot of practice and master the various topics we studied.

The feedback I received from Davide was constructive to understand what to correct and where to improve.
